Competitions

Inspired by The Bright Pearl

On this auspicious day, we call our artists and scientists to celebrate our Barony’s birthday through competitions, displays, and classes inspired by The Bright Pearl, a Chinese folk tale. Bring your research, completed works, or works in process featuring dragons, phoenixes, their embodiment, or symbology found in pre-16th century China.

Areas for judging will include fiber (non-garb); garb; perishables; wood / leather; metal / casting; poetry / performing arts; scribal arts.

Other areas may be added as needed.Novices and newcomers encouraged to participate!

Entrants will be grouped into one of three groups based on age or skill per your request.

Youth (16 yrs or younger)

Novice (youth or adult practicing an art or science for less than 2 years)

All others (youth or adult practicing an art or science for over 2 years)

Documentation is always appreciated. EZ docs will be available on site or through this link: http://www.larsdatter.com/ezdoc/basic.pdf

If you want to know how entries will be judged, be sure to check out the 2019 Atlantian judging rubric: https://moas.atlantia.sca.org/atlantian-as-judging-form/

Sponsored by Alchemy Guild

Alchemical Phoenix by Mary Jo Magar

The Phoenix is an alchemical symbol that represents the final Stage of an alchemical process, the resurrection of the stone, (also known as the Great Work, or the philosopher's stone), and stems from ancient concepts of renewal and rebirth.

For the contest, a participant will be able to enter or display an alchemy related project in which something has been broken down, reduced, altered or destroyed in order to create something new or different. Judged items should include documentation, but participants can also offer their items for display only, without judging, if they wish.

The largesse competition for Baronial Birthday will be a traditional Baker's Dozen, in which you, single or multiple you, create 13 somethings. Winning entry gets to keep one of all the other entries! It is different than our previous 'tax day's largesse competitions.

We could use small painted blank scrolls, rings, bracelets, brooches, hankies for wiping away happy tears in court, Sacred Stone/Phoenix/green & white items, fighter kits, any craft starter kits, medallions: Order of the Yeoman, and hand crafted single large beads to give it for the Awards of Excellence and Courtesy.

Displays

Completed works and works in process are welcome in all areas described above as well as your own areas of research and creation. Please share your art and science with our Barony.
